Another Crab's Treasure

Another Crab's Treasure

Review Brief

My first souls-like, by a developer that I very much like. Thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough.

Review Summary

I really enjoyed this game from start to finish. I had previously played the demo and was immediately intrigued by its tone, mechanics, and overall charm. Going into it, I hadn’t played a souls-like game before, so I approached it with an open mind rather than fixed expectations. I was already a fan of Going Under, Aggro Crab’s earlier title, and while Another Crab’s Treasure explores a very different genre, I felt confident I would enjoy their take on it. There is a noticeable learning curve, but it always feels fair and well-designed rather than punishing. The narrative elements, particularly the themes around ocean pollution, are handled thoughtfully and present enough to be meaningful without feeling preachy. Overall, this is a creative, light-hearted souls-like with a lot of personality, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone curious about the genre.

Review Summary

  • Wonky camera, switching between fixed and controllable lead to some frustrating platforming
  • The most fun parts of the game, the speed-run levels, were really infrequent. And of those, the 2D ones didn’t feel that great. They were hard to control.
